Sarah Campbell from start to finish @ F&TM London

from start to finish’ explores Sarah Campbell’s recent design journeys. The display is primarily concerned with the process of designing for textiles from commission and first thoughts – through sketches, roughs and artwork – to the finished product.
‘At heart, I love painting patterns, inventing designs’ says Sarah Campbell.
For 50 years Sarah Campbell worked alongside her sister Susan Collier in the innovative design partnership they founded and built together. Susan sadly died in May 2011 and in July that year Sarah began her new solo career.
Starting with her first commission in this new phase – collaborating on the book The Collier Campbell Archive – 50 years of passion in pattern, the work includes bed linens for Marks and Spencer, the Sonnet scarf for the National Theatre, source collections for WestElm and the most recent commission for Roger la Borde. Designs appear in many new and different media – glass, woven baskets, silks, papers, rugs… and, as ever, they start with Sarah’s unique and fine-tuned observations and the liveliness of her hand-painted mark.
Alongside her studio practice, Sarah writes a popular fortnightly blog, teaches, gives talks and runs workshops. www.sarahcampbelldesigns.com

City & Guilds Bursary deadline 25th April @10am

City & Guilds make these bursaries available on a bi-yearly basis.  We have now had 6 students who have been lucky enough to benefit from them and we do all we can to promote them as a wonderful way of being able to study for those who would otherwise not be able to.  http://www.cityandguilds.com/courses-and-qualifications/support/finance-and-funding/bursaries
The bursaries can be used for a wide range of purposes* including:
  • Paying your course and/or exam fees
  • Covering living costs if you are unable to work while you study
  • Covering childcare or travel expenses
  • Covering other costs that are making it difficult for you to enrol on a course.

Helen Brennan's Workbox article

It was lovely this week to be sent a copy of Workbox and to see one of our Australian students featured in it.  Helen is just completing a Machine Embroidery Certificate with us and has already decided to go on and undertake the Diploma afterwards.  I've taken a couple of snaps of her article, below, but it does look better in full colour and glossy glory, so why not get yourself a subscription to Workbox Magazine http://www.workboxmag.com/latest-issue/  or find it in your local newsagent?
